ABC: Pilot-Watch 2012 continues …

In the wake of Upfronts, let’s discuss ABC’s upcoming offerings. (In case you missed it, I posted about NBC’s fall programming late last night.) KSite TV has a great overview of ABC’s fall schedule, with descriptions of all the new shows. There are three new pilots that I’m excited about.

First up is Nashville. You guys, it’s like they made Country Strong into a TV show. How did the universe know that was my dream? I’m not sure that you are aware of how much I loved that movie, but I AM OBSESSED. Nashville, I am in. Connie Britton as a country diva, battling against a bitchy up-and-comer played by Hayden Panettiere? This is the stuff dreams are made of. Oh, and if you look closely, you can catch a glimpse of Jonathan Jackson, aka Lucky Spencer. Check out the trailer below:

LAST RESORT. Photo Credit: ABC.

Last Resort  is another new show on my radar, pun not intended. The upcoming drama was written by Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit, The Chicago Code) and Karl Gajdusek, who are also executive producers along with Martin Campbell and Marney Hochman Nash. I’m not much into cops or procedurals, so I must admit that this will be my first Shawn Ryan show. Please don’t hate me! Maybe it will inspire me to go back and watch his previous work? To be honest, the cast is what drew me in. Scott Speedman is returning to television, people! Excuse me while I plan a Felicity-themed party to celebrate. “Felicity, I watched you for four years …” Ahem. Also starring are Andre Braugher, Autumn Reeser (Taylor Townsend!), Dichen Lachman (Sierra from Dollhouse), Jessy Schram (Logan Echoll’s former girlfriend/ Cinderella in Once Upon A Time), and lots of other sure-to-be-great people whom I’ve never heard of. The premise reads as follows:

500 feet beneath the ocean’s surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receive their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their homeland has been wiped out, they’re told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan. Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home.

Dun dun dun. A lot of potential here, right? I’ll definitely commit to the first few episodes, and see how it is. You can watch the full trailer below:

666 PARK AVENUE. Photo Credit: ABC.

The third ABC pilot that I’ll definitely be checking out is 666 Park Avenue. It is based on the book series by Gabriella Pierce. I currently have the first book loaded on my Kindle, but I haven’t had a chance to finish it. So far, it reads like a love story, with a mysterious supernatural twist. I’m intrigued by Jane’s family history, and hope to find out more. In the TV show, main character Jane is played by Rachael Taylor (the blonde in the ill-fated Charlie’s Angels reboot), and her boyfriend Henry is played by Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters). According to the official description, Jane and Henry are “an idealistic young couple from the Midwest,” who are offered the opportunity to manage The Drake, a historic building, at an “ominous address.” The building’s mysterious owner, Gavin Doran, is played by Terry O’Quinn, and his wife Olivia will be portrayed by Vanessa Williams. Nice. The official description further reads: “The Drake maintains a dark hold over all of its residents, tempting them through their ambitions and desires, in this chilling new drama that’s home to an epic struggle of good versus evil.” Oooooh. You can get a closer look at the supernatural drama in the trailer below:
