I am super excited for the premiere of Girls, airing this Sunday, April 15th at 10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. “Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna are trying to figure life out. Theyʼve been living in New York for a couple of years, but theyʼre still not sure what they want – from boys, from each other, from themselves. And things arenʼt getting any clearer.” So reads the official description of the new HBO series, created by and starring Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture). Dunham stars as Hannah,  a 24-year-old aspiring writer living in New York City. She is described as “a unique mixture of self-entitlement and self-loathing.” Hannah’s best friend and roommate is the Marnie (Allison Williams), “a Type A personality with strict rules about friendship.” Rounding out the group is Jessa (Jemima Kirke), “a live-and-let-live bohemian whoʼs allergic to anything she views as bourgeois,” and Jessa’s younger cousin Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), “who aspires to the Sex and the City lifestyle.” This promises to be an entertaining combination. Girls aspires to take “a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s,” and from what I’ve read from critics so far, it succeeds with great authenticity and charm. Every advance review is full of elated praise for Girls, on a level that I’m not used to. I am certainly intrigued. For a closer look at the tone and plot of the show, check out some fun trailers, clips, and behind-the-scenes vids after the jump.
