Heroine TV Podcast: Mommy issues, daddy issues, all kinds of issues
Here is the latest edition of the Heroine TV Podcast. This week, the audio version of #SisterCommentary continues, as Francesca joins me to discuss the last five episodes of Mad Men: “Waldorf Stories,” “The Suitcase,” “Summer Man,” “Beautiful Girls,” and “Hands and Knees.” Five episodes in under 2 hours? Yeah, we did. This podcast contains spoilers for episodes that aired through Sunday, September 26th. It also includes giggling, praise for Peggy (I dare you to count how many times I call Peggy awesome), love for Joan, and even an occasional defense of Betty. Yes, Francesca and I are the only two people who still like Betty. You may even hear Francesca say, “I just thought it was fun to have that smack Don in the face.” Fun times. Take a listen using the player below, or subscribe via iTunes. Enjoy!

I tried to listen to it but it wouldn’t work. I wonder what I did wrong. I really want to listen to it. Any suggestions?
Hmmm. Did you push the little pink play (arrow) button, and make sure that your volume was up? Also, refreshing the page? Alternatively, you can download it on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/heroine-tv-podcast/id387079818
Wow. Okay. Listening to this at work was probably not one of my better ideas, because I you covered like a gazillion episodes and I couldn’t keep up. So I’ll just rough draft this.
You aren’t the only one who still likes Betty. Add me to the Lucia, Francesca, and January Jones list. I think she is bitchy a lot, but maybe that’s what I like about her, I don’t know. I have a hard time hating any of the women on this show because I think they are so brilliantly played. And that’s all I can remember that I had to say on that one.
I LOVED when Peggy stripped down. I, personally, am finding this season to be Peggy for the win. She is just perfection in nearly every episode. Maybe she’s always been this amazing, but she just seems uber fantastic this year.
And WORD. The first two seasons feel SO long ago. Plus I wasn’t as obsessed with the show in it’s first season so I don’t remember a lot. But I too feel like I need to go back and re-watch it. (And if someone could just find me some time to do that, that would be awesome).
Okay, I told you this was a very ‘rough’ comment, and it is because I’m now suddenly to (I wrote things down on a post-it note) “I agree about Don and Betty.” I’m not exactly sure what I am agreeing with, but it may be the fact that there are still some lingering feelings there on both parties. I think especially for Betty, she is very confused to how she feels about him. She the only emotion she reacts with is anger. For her to be that angry with him, she obviously still holds something for him. And I swear almost all the women Don is attracted to seem like versions of Betty. (Clearly I’m Joan obsessed as I just had to go back and change ever “Joan” to “Betty”).
Ugh. Just when I had managed to forgot about that awful awful awful thing that jerk-off said to Joan, you had to remind me in your podcast. Could he have said anything more foul? Add that to the fact that Joan has been raped? I don’t think I have ever wanted to reach inside of my television to strangle a character more than I did then. No one says things like that to Joanie. NO ONE. Curses.
Haha. I made the same comment to MY sister about Christina Hendricks’s outfit at the Emmy’s. “I wish she’d just dress like Joan.” Don’t get me wrong, the woman is flawless, but she is utterly amazing dressed in Joan’s wardrobe.
And now I’m on to Sally. Let’s see. I don’t want to put all the blame on Betty (I wrote Joan again). She clearly misses her dad and must not like Henry at all (though it doesn’t seem that he puts forth that much effort either). That situation was just kind of sad. Which is what divorce is. Sad.
Oh Mrs. Blankenship. (Why oh why can’t we just stick a t’ in there and call her Blanketship? I would love it so much). I felt horrible for laughing so hard at them trying to wheel her out while the meeting was taking place. Blanket on top of Mrs. Blanketship. I could not NOT giggle. She died just like she lived… Hilarious.
I never thought about Joan (this time I actually mean Joan) not going through with the abortion. Hmm. (I haven’t seen last night’s ep yet). I too found that whole scene to be very heart breaking and also wondered if she had been there before. Bravo for the writers going there. Tough & yet powerful to watch.
I loved Don getting Beatles tickets for Sally, but I LOVED seeing Betty smile even more. It felt like the first geniune happy emotion she’s had for a long time. I rewound it five times. I loved it.
Ugh Pete. Even when he does the right thing (by helping covering for Don), he still annoys the hell out of me. But there’s probably nothing he could do where I wouldn’t feel that way towards him. I blame Connor.
This was long. And random. But like always I love love love your podcasts. And I already told you this on twitter, but you do actually sound like Joan. I love it. And to Franni, I adore how you never watch or know as much as Lucia. It makes Lucia laugh which makes me laugh. And now I’m done.
Thanks, Tara! So glad to see that you are part of the “We DON’T hate Betty Draper” Fan Club. We are 4 members now, and growing strong. As for Peggy, she is definitely the MVP of the season, and quickly becoming my favorite character on TV.
“Blame Connor.” Ha! Although we must also blame Pete, because we can’t forget what he did to Gretel, the neighbor’s nanny (in “Souvenir”). It was tantamount to rape, so he can never be redeemed for me. Still, he has become a slightly more enjoyable character this season, just because he’s finally had some character growth.
I’m glad that you find the unique way that Frani watches television as entertaining as I do. Sigh. Thanks for listening!
