Heroine TV Podcast: Canceled Gems, Part I
The Heroine TV Podcast is back! I have been having some technical difficulties and scheduling problems, so my apologies for the lack of podcasts lately. This week, I have something a bit different to offer you. Instead of discussing Mad Men or True Blood with Francesca, I discuss my favorite canceled television shows with my friend Fen. Fen runs a blog called Rev/Views and is also on Twitter as @RevViews. He hails from England, so hopefully his accent will class up the podcast a bit.
In preparation for the podcast, we each compiled a list of our favorite canceled shows, with the caveat that the show must have aired two seasons or less. So Angel, Everwood and Veronica Mars would not be eligible, in case you were wondering about their absence. After about two hours, we had only covered half of our lists, so we decided to turn it into two podcasts. Here is our discussion of the first 7 out of a list of 14. We cover Firefly, Wonderfalls, My So-Called Life, Dead Like Me, Joan of Arcadia, Jack & Bobby, and Garth Marengi’s Dark Place. We try to remain vague and spoiler free, with the exception of Firefly and Serenity, and possibly Wonderfalls, though we tried to be careful. There are Firefly, Serenity, and Wonderfalls spoilers in this podcast. I get nostalgic about the nineties, and there are some Star Wars related tangents. For the record, Fen does not hate Star Wars. So he says.
You can listen to the podcast on the player below, or via iTunes. Enjoy!

It’s nearly 4am but it was worth it to listen to that. I think it’s absolutely HILARIOUS having someone try and explain Darkplace to someone who’s never heard of it “I’m Garth Marengi, welcome to my darkplace…” Other great canceled show you guy didn’t mention was MIRACLES, it’s was sort of like THE X-FILES only they would investigate religious phenomenon as apposed aliens, plus it only lasted 13 episodes which is a shame as it was really interesting.
Haha! I’m still confused. I think I have to see it to believe it. I’ve never heard of Miracles, but I’ll mention it on the next podcast.
Also was awesome that you put in the hot chicks with superpowers line from Buffy in at the end.
“Gateway drug to Whendonverse” hah. I was the opposite, followed all things Whedon from BTVS on, but somehow missed Firefly. Might have been upset at Fox which cancelled Dark Angel to add Firefly (but mostly because it deprived me of more Jensen Ackles). Of course I now have it on DVD, Serenity too.
Lots of good shows don’t last. Your podcast reminded me of Jack & Bobby, which was a little slow but a well-done family drama. The acting I thought was solid, wish the show had gone on longer for everyone to grow into their characters. Never checked out Joan of Arcadia, Wonderfalls or Dead Like Me.. partly because I’m not sure they’re my kind of shows, and partly because I know I’ll be furious when they just end with no resolution.
I do agree that I’d rather a show die young before they stay too long at the party. Or go with a “bad” prequel or situation, that’s the problem with SW or IJ4. I just prefer a show to just rock out for 2 or 3 seasons like Rome, rather than stumble and fall and plod along forever.
Glad I found this today, good kick in the pants to finish my own “TV shows that died too soon” post.
Sorry, for some odd reason Akismet sent this comment when to my Spam folder, but I just rescued it. Yeah, I was a little backwards with my Whedon watching. I wish I had watched Buffy when it was on. Sigh. Glad that you listened to the podcast, and that you’re a fellow Jack & Bobby fan!
