GAME OF THRONES: Winter is Coming Teaser
On Sunday, June 13th, HBO aired a teaser trailer for its upcoming series, Game of Thrones, during True Blood. This may be old news for some of you,but as a fan of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones, the book that the upcoming television show is based on, I would be remiss if I didn’t post something here. HBO then posted the teaser online, and after watching it about a zillion times, I have posted it for you below:
Winter is coming, indeed. While the teaser is extremely short, I am thrilled with the look and tone of the show. They seem to have got it right. For screen shots of the trailer, frame by frame, go here.
Like I mentioned, I’m a big fan of the book on which the series is based: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I read it last summer, after my brother recommended it to me. Since then, I have been slowly working my way through the second book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, A Clash of Kings. I will definitely finish it this summer (if I can ever put down those darn Vampire Academy books), and then get started on the next one. There are four books in the series, so far, and the impatience of the fans for the forthcoming books makes me happy that I’m a latecomer to the fandom. Less waiting for me. The books in this series are not quick reads, as they are about 900-1,000 pages each. Martin is a very witty and intelligent writer, and there is a lot of subtlety there. I’m not exactly speeding through A Clash of Kings–more like savoring it. While billed as “fantasy,” the series deals with a lot of political intrigue and very little magic or “fantasy.” I should also warn you that it is not a happy story; instead, it is one that might appeal to fans of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. Martin’s world is harsh, dark, and cold, and his slogan “Winter Is Coming” is well chosen for the tagline of the HBO series.
HBO has also released the following image of our hero, Ned Stark, as played by Sean Bean:

Yes! I just finished A Game of Thrones this afternoon, I guess I was closer to the end than I thought (keep in mind I carried this book everywhere for a year, so prepare to receive your previously new book in a more ‘well loved’ condition). I love Sean Bean for Eddard! The trailer, while not at all spoilery enough for my tastes, is very exciting! You’re definitely right, the tone of the trailer is exactly what I was hoping for!
Also I’m using a different computer and now have a rainbow unicorn icon, this may be the happiest moment of my entire life.
I’m glad that I could make your dreams come true.
I have a unicorn gravatar plug-in. Yes, it is the best thing EVER.
Hurrah! We will have to talk about it soon!
