Ooh, intriguing! Good point about Widmore being killed by the jughead bomb. I had forgotten that he was on the island at that time. Yeah, the Losties were so selfish and naive to assume that blowing up the island would only stop the plane from crashing. No thought for the myriad of other effects. I like the idea that Desmond is traveling in both timelines, so perhaps his presence can be explained as a crossover between the two timelines. The crossover between timelines could also explain Jack's injured neck, and Juliet's coffee comment.

Desmond on the plane is one of the more intriguing aspects on the "flashsideways" reality.

To begin with: Jack seems to recognize Desmond. At first, you'd think, "Sure, they met at the stadium."

Except if the island was submerged in 1977 after the jughead bomb went off (assuming that's when everything sank into the ocean), then Widmore would have been killed, and Desmond never would have had to train for the race around the world, which is what he was doing when he met Jack in the stadium.

So is Desmond on the plane in his capacity as a sometimes time traveler? It might help explain why he vanishes.
