The last two episodes of Gossip Girl have failed to inspire me to blog.  Nevertheless, I would like to comment on them now, grouped into one post.  Read on for my thoughts on episode 3×03, aired September 28th, 2009; and 3×04, aired October 5th, 2009.

  • Blair has been floundering, so it was nice to see her pick herself back up an the end of the latest episode.  She may not rule NYU yet, but she has a group of like-minded minions her own age to boss around now.  Let them eat cake.
  • I was proud of Chuck for stepping in to help Blair in a way that was not overly patronizing.  I’m glad that they didn’t make a plot point about Blair finding out, and refusing his help, etc.  His interference was unobtrusive and extremely effective.  Kudos to the show runners for keeping this couple together.
  • Serena and Carter are still together, despite the best efforts of Chuck and Blair to sabotage the nauseating couple.  I guess that since they are both equally annoying, they are meant to be.  Serena also takes a job with Tyra Banks to show her mom that she’s serious about working.  Pause to laugh.  To clarify, Banks was playing a drama queen movie star, not herself.  Apparently, Serena is a “celebrity-whisperer.”
  • It looks like the brief respite from Georgina will remain short-lived, judging by her phone-call to Vanessa.  Sigh.  Go back to Mercy, already.  I don’t watch Mercy, but I hope it sticks around, just so that we can avoid having Georgina become a regular character on Gossip Girl.
  • Bree and Nate are going strong, but we have a hint of trouble.  It seems that Carter screwed over her family in the past, and the southern red head is determined to use his capture to impress her family.  So far, Nate knows nothing of this, and it could get interesting.  Oh, who am I kidding?  It’s a Nate storyline–it will be dull and useless.  Sigh.
  • Scott (Rufus and Lily’s long-lost love child) almost told Dan and Rufus the truth, but he stopped at the last moment, due to his love for the mother that raised him.  He did admit to being the brother of the long lost love child, but that is all.  Vanessa knows the truth, and tried to get him to spill, but he refuses, and goes back to Boston.  Due to some sneaky eavesdropping, Georgina also knows the truth, and is sure to utilize it to her own advantage … and to the disadvantage of everyone else.  It also seems that Georgina followed Scott back to Boston, and is already involved in wrapping him around her little finger.  I guess dumb runs in the Humphrey men’s genes.
  • Lily finally returned from staying with her sick mother, much to my relief.  She is not thrilled with Serena’s decision not to go to Brown, and I don’t blame her.
  • Dan, in addition to dealing with the Scott drama, meets a new girl: Hilary Duff.  Duff plays Kristen Stewart, except blond and not socially inept.  I actually liked Duff’s role, and it appears to continue into the next episode.  Why she likes Dan remains a mystery.  I guess all beautiful famous women fall in love with Dan Humphrey in the alternate universe that is Gossip Girl.  Sigh.  Also, in another crazy mixed up happenstance, Vanessa is the teen actress’s room-mate.  What a small world.
  • Oh, and last, but not least, Jenny!  Yes, the youngest Humphrey is still alive, and has not run off to boarding school (like she did in the spin-off book series).  We had seen nothing of Jenny this season, until this week’s latest offering.  Jenny’s return to Constance as the newly appointed Queen Bee did not go smoothly.  She naively tried to reform the monarchy, and create a free and egalitarian society.  Silly girl.  The other girls revolt, and turn to Blair, who sets things back to the status quo.  After Chuck’s interference (alluded to above), Jenny is back on top and has learned her lesson about weak rulers.  All hail, Queen Jenny.  Side note: the new punk/ goth chick look Jenny has adopted is a great touch, and it’s hilarious to see the rest of the minions copy her style.  I have been prone to a lot of Jenny hate in the past, but I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder.

Yes, I'm wondering what in the world Blair is wearing in this photo too. Night wear for gymnasts? For shame, Blair Waldorf. Photo Credit: Giovanni Rufino / The CW.
