Lena Headey is Cersei Lannister: More GAME OF THRONES Casting News

2009 September 1

Sarah ConnorMaureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune has confirmed that Lena Headey (Sarah Connor in the much beloved and canceled-before-its-time Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), has been cast as the deceitful & treacherous queen in the upcoming HBO production of A Game of Thrones. (Pause to catch breath).  This is amazing casting news.  While in the books Cersei has golden hair and fair coloring, Lena is perfect as a a queenly type (as evidenced in her role as the Spartan queen in 300), and I can’t wait to see her as a villain.  Lena is a talented actress with a wide range, and although she does an American accent very convincingly, she is in fact British.  She’ll certainly fit in with the rest of the fabulous cast.  Love it.  This show is getting increasingly awesome by the minute. Also, I’m near the end of the book on which the series is based, written by George R.R. Martin.  I am recommending it to everyone I know, as it is entertaining, well-written, thought-provoking, funny, clever, and sad.  Martin also doesn’t allow anyone to remain happy for very long, and seems to take joy in making his characters miserable.  What can I say?  Watching so many Whedon shows, Battlestar Galactica, etc. has made me expect the tragedy, to the point that I kind of love it.

Someone amazing must have given you the idea to read that book huh?
I don’t know how this is going to work though, she HAS to be blond, along with her bro and her kids. It will totally screw up the show if she doesn’t!

Yeah, whoever recommended A Game of Thrones’ to me must be a genius ;) I ordered the second book, because I couldn’t hold off any longer. I think they’re gonna make Lena blonde, so don’t worry. Check out what GRRM has to say about it: “Yes, it’s true, she’s not a blonde, but she has played one on TV (and in films). Seriously, guys. This is HBO. They know about wigs and hair dyes and stuff like that.” Hehe. That’s just evidence of what a great actress Lena is–you totally disassociated her two characters.
